Thanks Adam. Ran into a old gun smith(Ok, I was buying a Walther p38 at a
gun shop) last weekend and asked him ( Sherman) the same thing. As he began
rifles from a younger past, he said with a big smile "Nope... just to many
different holes to make it easy".

Post by Adam LeechPost by RobI have a very nice late 60's Walther KKM that shoots like a dream
, but have never been crazy with the old style walnut stock. Any how
, so I do see many very nice walnut target Anschutz 54 stocks for
sale that I do like and was wondering if the KKM action would fit
into a 54 stock with maybe some minor stock work. Thanks for any
help, Rob.
I would think (unless they happen to be identically spaced) that you'd need
to re-drill the holes for the bolts to hold the action in place, cut a new
notch for the bolt handle to fit into, reposition the recoil lug (more than
likely take the one out of the Walther stock so that it's right for the
aciton and move it over to the new stock) and do a bit of chiselling to fit
the trigger guard correctly. There might be a bit of other minor work to
accomodate the safety catch etc...
As far as the aciton itself fitting in goes, you should be able to just open
out the inside of the stock and bed the Walther action in with epoxy bedding
compound. This is arguably an improvement anyway, as it mates the action to
the stock better and reduces any movement/twisting in the stock when you
fire.
I think that sounds like more hard work than it would really be. If you're
so minded (and so equipped) then you could probably do the woodwork at home,
but I'd leave the bedding to a target rifle gunsmith myself.
HTH.
