I thought you boys over the pond lost your shooting rights a long time ago?
What gives?

Nope. Only pistol shooting is totally banned.
Even then, there are ways to get round it, a bloke at my Club has got a
'Dirty Harry' gun (.44 Magnum?). To use it, he has had a shoulder rest
welded to the handle, to make it over 24" long, hence it is now classed
as a rifle due to its length.
Small bore shooting is still a big thing, though those who do it are
very quiet about it, so no-one, apart from those taking part, are aware
of such a sport.
Full bore is still allowed at appropriate shooting grounds, and at live
quarry, such as deer.
You are not allowed auto or semi-auto full bore rifles though.
Shotgun shooting is very big here, mainly clay target, but in the winter
months a lot of game birds are shot, the majority being pheasant and
pigeon(shot all year), then in smaller amounts, geese, ducks, partridge
and many other eatable birds.

Evan that's misleading, Alan. We can still shoot muzzle loaders and
cap-and-ball revolvers. And, as you say, revolvers and .22 pistols with
barrels at least 30cm and/or goofy 'wrist braces' to make an overall
length of 60cm.
