The next bit is a bit biased as I work for Orange, but Orange PAYG has
a
facility to pay £1 for unlimited internet for a day, which if you are
going to be hammering it is the cheapest package out there.

They do indeed, but isn't that solely for accessing the Internet using
your phone, not using it as a modem to access the Internet from an
external device ?
